How did you stop talking to someone you loved?

Have you been in a relationship where you had to stop talking to someone you loved. How did you do it?

I am years in, now long distance but talk daily. We have so much history but I’ve been betrayed at one point and can’t get over it. Plus I give up on the promises.

i can’t just “cut him off” I am looking for answers from people who experienced the same or similar because they would only understand.

I was in an on and off LDR for 7 years, and looking back now my advise would be that if there is no silver lining in sight then you are wasting your time. I know all about having history, going through a lot with them and not necessarily wanting to give up your hopes for the future. But you can’t get back that time invested no matter what, so it doesn’t mean you should just invest more. Words are nice, actions are better, and after years of broken promises you already know this is dead ended. You say you can’t just walk away but unless you have something tying yourself to him like a kid (or kids), property, or something like that then the only thing holding you back is yourself, maybe some guilt and whatnot. In my case the guy would use his mental health, depression and other dark things to make me feel bad, but i had to go. Moving on won’t be easy, it may be hell how it was for me, but you do get over it. I found someone new and so much better/healthier, that I would’ve never met or even given the time of day if I kept entertaining that other guy.
