Kind of tricky question, since heck you could say okay I'll take on the debt but then the next day hot girlfriend breaks up with you. Debt doesn't break up, sticks to you.

So, I would say with some caveats, that this has to be a hot girlfriend that I also am having a happy, healthy relationship with. I'm not going to take on $40K to be miserable, or to get dumped, or deal with a toxic person with a hot body. If that was the case, I would gladly take on the debt. I could have $40K paid off by the end of the year and consider it a good investment in my life happiness.

Another way to look at is is using some maths and amortizing the relationship over the course of years, I would have to say how much am I paying to have this girlfriend? Happiness is more than a hot girlfriend, but could certainly improve quality of life (again, assuming a hot personality is part of what makes her hot). I would value that around $500/month. Even that is a bit high and somewhere around there I would just prefer to be single and spend that money on other things.

But with $40K in credit card debt, assuming with interest rates by the time I pay it off it will probably cost me closer to $70K, this "hot girlfriend package" would be worth it @$500/mo as long as she is going to be around more than 140 months, or roughly 12 years. That's a pretty big bet to be making, and honestly I'd be more inclined to go with a monthly plan of $500/mo than want to take on the $40K up front. But then, at that point, if we've been together for 12 years, it's likely we will be together the rest of our lives, so $40K is not that big a cost.

I mean, this is all hypothetical and not really the way life works, but it's kind of fun to think about and think about what the value of money is, as opposed to the value of having a satisfying relationship.

I'm not sure if the question entails the girlfriend being the reason you're in debt.

If so: then no girl no debt for sure.

If not: as in I got in debt for another reason but just so happens to have a hot girlfriend, depending on how much of a ride or die she is I might rebuild with her.

That being said, I of course don't want debt if I can help it. A girlfriend would be good but not critical
