Been told boyfriend has cheated on me by a girl but he is refusing to admit?

Messaged a girl as I had suspicions she told me that they'd been exchanging messages in that manner and he'd been double messaging her asking her why she's not replying etc things like that. Denied all at first and then slowly says I did message but just friendly and won't admit to the rest of the things she's saying, he's also refusing to give me any proof of what happened which to me screams guilty. Would I be stupid to believe his lies?
