Guys, Why would he reach out to another woman to vent?

My boyfriend and I broke up for a few days and I found out he contacted a woman that he made out with once but almost 10 years ago. When I confronted him about it, he told me that he was friends and they’d talk to each other when there was relationship issues going on between their partners but that was the full extend of it.

I did speak to her and she said all he mentioned how he was really depressed and talked about me and our relationship. She told me that she told him relationships work at it and to give it a shot. I don't know.

He went to her for exactly what he says he did; and it's not that different from what you're doing now.

It's probably kind of hard to vent about you to you.
So it is always better to vent to someone else.

Would this mean there’s an emotional connection there between them? I just don’t want to work on something if he’s not serious about how contacting this woman affects me

It is possible, or they are just friends and he was just getting things off his chest.
I think that is something we all do after a relationship is over, you talk to someone else who will listen without making any judgements.
You tend to bring up the negative things so that will help re-enforce your decision to end the relationship.
As to their closeness that is hard to say.
I have co-workers at the station I can talk to, but I am not interested in them at all other than our friendship and bond we have developed over time.
