Imagine this...
There's this man/woman who you know loves you very dearly even though both of you are not in a relationship. You can already tell that he/she really wants you with pure intention of marrying you from the way he/she treats you compare to the others... all those efforts that he/she put... you know what I mean right?
However, you only think of him/her as nothing but a friend due to your own respective reasons (it can be anything). Therefore, you could not give the same vibes or efforts for him/her. You sometime gives him/her hot and cold attitudes... push him/her away... ignore or late replies... etc... Even so, he/she still never gives up on you and always keep it consistent to win your heart and love.
But one day, you found out that he/she has this critical disease and may not have much time left. What would you do in this situation? how? and... does your actions for him/her are purely involve sympathy only?

If I was the healthy one then I would simply be present, immediately accessible, and expect an occasional bottle of wine type gathering-cry moments. I would also expect an emotional fluctuation between "seize the day" and depression or worse. There may be some intimacy involved at this point but who knows?
When one starts treatment then the reality really hits. The strangeness starts but the Unhealthy isn't mad or hate the Healthy just because of the "raging' at times. Will be looking for that strong backbone person, friend, or companion until it is beaten or passes. If beaten then the relationship now will likely be much different once cured.
Hope this turns out to be treatable and is beaten.
I would make sure the person gets the best medical care possible, and prepare myself for probably losing them anyway.
"You don't know what you've got till it's gone".
I would be the best friend that I could be. I would do anything for her.
