So basically they just left their time consuming job to pursue something else and they're mostly spending their time at home with you but when others ask how they feel about it they're not happy about it and instead seem irritated.

I would feel bad of course, but that should be an input to improve the relationship. Understand why he is feeing irritated, what are traits of the relationship with you that are making him anxious and stressed. If they are things that can be caused by you (example: you make him walk on eggshells after you overreacted about something, or you make him feel indirecty guilty for not giving you attention), then that can be sorted out by trying to correct this problem. While if they are things that are caused by him (like feeling suffocated in any relationship, regardless, or struggling with his boundaries while sharing the house with someone else), then that can be sorted out as well maybe with some modifications in the lifestyle.
But in any case you should get to know this from him, not from others, you have to communicate with him and make him cooperate about understanding what is not working in this relationship and once it's clear (talking without accusations and without a pissed mood) you start reasoning about what can be done about it, from both sides.
Talking and understanding is the first step, the more you avoid it the more you let the relationship worsen. These things stack up, they don't magically disappear. Better unfolding them earlier. Present yourself very calm, chill, methodical, non-judgemental, like an external actor that sees the relationship from outside, wanting to improve it rationally. He must trust that you won't get too hurt/offended if he tells you the truth, otherwise it won't work.

When I love someone, I want to spend all my time with them.
I even wish I could spend more time with my husband and we literally live together lol

I'd have a serious discussion with them about the state of our relationship. If need be, I'd seek trying everything to remedy the situation, including divorce.
