Enough to support the family. Basically food and shelter. No luxuries because the money has been cut drastically but the provider will always appreciate you and bring enough to live healthy.

It most certainly is a question of 'what would make us feel best/enjoy life the most'.
That 'best friend', we all need (simply because at least some people are swindlers and thiefs). Beyond that - who works and how much, is entirely a matter of wanted lifestyle (but you have to remember the need for pension when both if you get old).
