My partner wants to buy first property with his mum, not me?

His mum financially cannot afford to buy a new house alone, and asked my boyfriend to share the mortgage together. He’s keen on the plan to be a home owner. Although, he said to me this means it will take much longer time before he can buy a property with me.

I just don’t know how I feel about this. It’s understandable that he’s a loyal son but we have always discussed about buying our first property together, now it’s gone. Do you think this is good for our future?

This strikes me as far more sentimental than practical. I get why you want your boyfriend's first home to be bought with you, but it's just not that big of deal.

Buy a home together, make that home your own; that's all you can really hope for.

His mom might be middle aged or older. He may want to help her in buying a better home. You guys have a lot of time in future to buy things together.
