* They might still be curious about their ex's life. Even if they're no longer together, they might still care about what their ex is up to. They might want to know if their ex is happy, if they're dating someone new, or if they're doing well in general.
* They might be trying to make their ex jealous. If their ex is happy in a new relationship, they might watch their ex's social media stories in order to make them jealous. They might hope that their ex will see that they're doing well and that they're happy without them.
