There are a few possible reasons why your dad may not let you help with his paperwork but lets his girlfriend help instead:
1. He may not want to involve you in his adult or financial affairs. Some parents try to shield their children from certain responsibilities to protect them.
2. He may feel more comfortable having his partner help him. Even if her spelling or education level is lower, she is an adult he is intimately familiar with and trusts.
3. His girlfriend may be more insistent on helping, while you have not pushed the issue as much. Some people are more comfortable assigning tasks to those who volunteer.
4. He may have different standards or expectations for you compared to his girlfriend. As your parent, he likely holds you to higher standards and wants you to focus on school, hobbies, etc. rather than helping with paperwork.
5. There could be relationship dynamics at play. Your dad's girlfriend may want to find ways to prove her usefulness to your dad. He may allow this even if it's not ideal, to avoid conflict.
While it can be frustrating to not be allowed to help when you feel capable, try to remember that your dad's choice likely has more to do with his preferences, relationship and comfort level than a reflection on your abilities. Many parents are often overprotective of their children, even when they are capable of taking on responsibilities.
The best thing you can do is communicate your desire to help in a respectful way. Your dad may not change his mind, but at least he will better understand your perspective. Try to let go of any hurt feelings - focus on what truly matters, which is your relationship with your dad. I hope this provides some helpful insight!
