Ok so a really long time ago when I was in a different head space I had sex for money. I'm not proud of it and I was struggling at the time to makes ends meet.

Would you tell a current boyfriend that you have done that in the past?

My last boyfriend found out from somebody else and split up with me because of that.

He said he didn't want to be with a girl who would do that.

I didn't think he needed to know as it was when I was 18 (5 years ago) but after he reacted how he did I'm now thinking shall I just tell my current boyfriend so the same thing doesn't happen.

I would tell my boyfriend because I know he wouldn't care because it was before him. I'm not sure how your boyfriend will take it but I would tread lightly. Not every guy will take it well. You may need to keep it from him until you're far more serious.
