Would you tell your current girlfriend/boyfriend about past relationships?

I prefer not to tell anything, nor will I ask. That’s in the private sphere. What happened before I knew her is not really relevant to our current relationship. I think it would only create resentment and open the door for unfair comparisons.

EVERYTHING that has happened in your life has helped to shape who you are today, so everything that has happened to you is relevant if this is a woman who you are inviting to share your life. Having an intense need to keep parts of your life private is NOT a way to built trust in a relationship. Yes, you have the right to have your privacy, but that doesn't make secrecy the right thing to do with your partner.

However, every detail of my wife's past does not concern me. She was married once before and he cheated on her; that is relevant. He, too, was from China and my wife's family liked him; that is relevant. Their favorite sexual position is not relevant and I would never ask.

I don't need to know her body count because I know enough about her to know that it is low and, most importantly, I know that she sees sex as something to be shared only within a committed relationship. She doesn't know my body count because she never asked and I never volunteered the information; if she asked, I would tell her.

In my experience, I find it way better to share about the past relationships. It gives me a better idea of her present reactions when I know what she's been through. It makes me more aware of her personality, and as such more compassionate, more close and more thoughtful in my reactions, and in relation to her.

There can be traps to avoid though, timing, diplomacy and consideration are important lol. Oversharing is to avoid, for instance I don't think any lover would appreciate receiving a fully descriptive report of the first time 😆
