Does Like attract Like?

Question

There must be a reason why I felt attracted to my ex the most, and no, it mustn’t be his looks.

Because if looks mattered, I’d get into a relationship a lot earlier.

I remember my ex and I going out together and people telling us we looked alike, we had same vibes, even though we were as different as they can get looks wise.

Even my friends told me, when I introduced him to them the first evening, that we looked like siblings because of the vibe we shared.
We had similar personalities, sometimes I wonder maybe I loved myself in him and he loved himself in me.

He could be very different and yet strangely similar to me.

And when we went out everyone said we were a great couple because of how we matched each other with our energies.

Commonly, opposites attract, as we tend to seek others who fill the voids we see within ourselves. We hope their assets will rub off on us, and we'll improve in those areas, but the opposite is much more likely. We generally just rely on the other to do those things they excel at, leading us to feel more insecure and inadequate in those areas.

Similarities tend to be much more stable over time. We're not attempting to be something we're not, and we find it easier to predict what we can expect. It's draining to feel we always have to run to keep up with a partner or we'll never measure up to our partner's expectations. It's easier to see our value and purpose in a relationship between similars, allowing us to feel this is where we belong and will always be safe.

It's all about good vibes, common things between partner, mutual understanding, mutual efforts and mutual work.

Maybe looks attract me in the beginning but it's temporary thing. I'd go for good personality, good behavior and chemistry for serious long term relationship.

My boyfriend and I have similar morals and the same core values. Some similar interests that bond us but it is mostly our ethnics/morals/views on a lot of things. Interests change but core values typically don’t. Personality wise we are opposites. I am really fiery/passionate/bubbly where he is very calm and can be silly. He honestly reminds me of my dad’s personality in some ways and they get along really well. We can both be extreme introverts or very social if the need calls for it (ambiverts?). Like attracts like. People tend to go for what is familiar. Some people would say my partner and I are opposites but I don’t think we are that different to each other

I think we do tend to be attracted to people with similar characteristics. I realized i usually went after the shy girls who seemed more reserved and if you know about attachment styles i tend to fall for the fearful avoidants a lot. and as someone who has an anxious attachment style it is a common matchup that unfortunately usually ends in heartbreak. So after learning about all this im now become more aware of the signs of these types before i become emotionally invested in them.

I know feel afraid of falling in love because earlier used to think love and is an action and I tried to act for them be empathetic for them but it resulted into not even gaining respect. Now. I think that love has a new meaning that is to keep transferring it

It seems like there are 2 different modes. You can be attracted to the same thing as you or something different but complimentary. Both are good because they work well with you, and you work well with them.

Yes. Depending on the morals that couple has and depending on the accuracy. Example. I can be a gym freak and theirs a girl who's also a gym freak having the same chemistry like me. Another is that am a tattooed freak she's also a tattooed freak. The same deal.
