What is more important to you in a relationship: Loyalty or Trust?

If I had to choose, I’d pick loyalty.

For example, maybe we don’t know each other very well yet, maybe they haven’t completely earned my trust yet.

But, when the rubber meets the road, when the time comes for them to prove themselves, they will come through for me, because their loyalty is true.

It’s almost like a kind stranger. Someone who you don’t know very well yet. But, they sincerely care about your well-being, whether you know it or not.

In contrast, if you have someone you think you can trust, but they actually don’t have strong loyalty to you, you’re just in for a rude awakening.

You can misplace your trust if you place your trust in someone who isn’t loyal.

So, loyalty is more important than the two. Because trust without loyalty is simply misplaced trust.

In relationships, both are highly important. It’s just that loyalty ranks higher in importance to me.

Both kind of go hand in hand. You need loyalty in a relationship to help build the foundation of faithfulness to commitments and obligations but you also need trust to build that foundation to have confidence that that person will be faithful to you and only you.

I guess if a guy was loyal to me, I wouldn't have to have trust issues. I think that I prefer loyal men and men can prefer me because I'm trustworthy.

If I have to pick between the two, I'd say Trust...

But it is important to keep in mind what trust actually is: That you can be sure someone will behave exactly as you expect them to.
It isn't about honesty. If you know a consistent liar inside out to the point where you can read through their lies then you can trust them, because you know what they mean even if they try to obfuscate it. It is about understanding someone to the point where you can set your watch by them... and that doesn't come easy.

Loyalty is a trap though. Nobody is EVER unwaveringly loyal to someone else. If they claim to be then they are lying, and they might even be lying to themselves... and thus again it comes back to Trust. People will serve their own perceived best interests, and the trick to figuring that out is to work out what those interests are, and also how they regard themselves. The best you can do is find someone for whom you (specifically) are an integral part of their life-plan. That can serve as faux-loyalty for most intents and purposes.

scared to answer this I've never dated and I'm too scared to say loyalty because I don't want to get stabbed in the back and I don't want to be say trust because people get jealous when I play with other dudes in video games I don't want to make anyone upset so I'll just curl up in a ball and not move

this is a good question. it sort of feels like a chicken or egg scenario

i tend to think they go hand in hand. if you have no loyalty then you have no trust. if you have no trust then you tend to assume there is no loyalty.
