Do you feel a little sadness when someone who has lived with you - leaves?

I no longer needed any help with cooking, or a surveillance that I won’t fall, I am doing great on crutches, so I decided to let my housekeeper go and only hire her 2-3 times a week, to come and clean the apartment as well as help me with cooking.

She has lived with me for a month though and today, I was sitting on the balcony looking out at the sun, as she left, she came and hugged me, kissed my hand for a sign of gratitude and respect I think, even though I felt very shy she did it, I hugged her back and told her, I’ll miss her.

As she was leaving, I looked at her closing the door and the moment, door closed, I felt a tiny bit sadness.

Why do I get so easily attached?

Goodbyes are sad, at least, the first 10 minutes they are.

I kind of find it alarming, or maybe disturbing, that You describe the symptoms of being a proper human being as something abnormal. We human beings live in packs. I guess that You knew Your housekeeper long enough for Her become a part of Your "pack", and once She left, Your "pack" became somewhat lacking. Furthermore, She's been a great help to You, so it's natural for You to be grateful for that and to want to spend more time with a kind person (even if that kindness is somewhat a part of the housekeeping job - if She is naturally kind, You have probably caught on to that little detail and valued Her even more). So... Yeah... You're a proper human being, or even more than that (I guess I know a thing or two about Your kindness myself). If that's abnormal, then this world is going to the dogs and there's no saving it. Sadness might be a bit painful, but as long as it's not utter despair, it's simply a proof that we are living, feeling human beings and not some robots.

I’ve never cohabitated. It’s usually been me moving to one place or another. I did feel similar when I’d finished looking after my sister and nephew earlier this year.

I care more about the development of my nephew after having spent three months clothing, changing, bathing, babysitting, feeding, transporting, and entertaining him. He’s talking now and his vocabulary is growing.

You’ll still get to see her. She was taking care of you. I assume she’d earned your trust, which is why you feel the void.

You’ll be okay. Once you’re mobile, you’ll be out there in no time leaving voids in other people’s hearts pining for your return.

I took care of myself, she just cooked and cleaned and cheered me up. I am very mobile, it’s just my company didn’t want to risk me falling again, so they hired her for daily chores or keeping an eye on me not to fall, but I was faster than her with crutches and told her, I didn’t need surveillance about not falling, instead she could enjoy her free time.

Aww, thanks haha, can’t wait to go out more often.

Well that was considerate of you. Did she try and convince you that you still needed her constant attendance? Maybe she liked living with you.

She noticed that I didn’t need, because I have been very independent ever since I came home from hospital. I value my independence, space and time a lot.

Actually I found out much stronger than I thought I was, Because I could still count on myself pretty well and do everything with just one leg.

Welcome to 2023. Human interaction is rare. The world is inside your phone. Whenever you do have someone physically around for more than a few hours, the planets have aligned. As an introvert, I don’t mind it. Sometimes I wouldn’t mind going back to the 90s or 2000s though.
