What should we do to celebrate our ANNIVERSARY?

Our anniversary is coming up, the day when my SO and I moved in together, 7 years ago. In years past, I've bought her flowers and we've gone out to dinner on our anniversary, typically to a restaurant of her choice. She's much pickier than I am when it comes to food.

This year, my SO has said that she doesn't really care if we celebrate it or not. It's been a sometimes rough year for us, especially since her sister passed away.

What should I do to convince her to celebrate? Or should I just leave it and have it be just another day?

We had a very nice dinner at one of her favorite restaurants. It was a new location. The service was good, the food was excellent. She was happy. She took home half of her food (like she usually does) and ate it the next day.

I would say, being that her sister passed away, a quiet place but something not to put her to sleep. If there is a play or theater you'd like to take her to, or a quieter place than normal for a nice dinner, that would seem ok. See what her interests are. You can even go to a museum if that's her thing. As long as it's a place that would pique her interest, or that she'd like to go to, that's the place. Just thought of another place--maybe a cheese/wine tasting event? There are places that sit you down for this and you try different cheeses from around the world with wines.

Hey! I reckon since this year she’s not that keen on celebrating it you could do a movie night and order food. It’ll still be really cute and wholesome!

from the very start... it would be wrong to convince or force someone to celebrate, and I really believe it's worse after they lost someone recently...

perhaps, you could still get her a little detail... at the end of the day, you do care for her right? so think of a detail from the first times you met... maybe a song, a receipt, a meal you shared, just think of something from that very first date or how you met, whatever it is... should be something that shows her, how you really care, she might appreciate that at these times of grief

Whats the unique thing you have between you two? Because those are often fantastic inspiration sources. Like perhaps there is a specific symbology you two identify with, theme it around that. Maybe something special happened when you first got together, or you can do 7 smaller things one themed around the highlight of every year.

Ignore the "we don't have to do anything". My wife has been saying that for 15 years, and the one time I forgot to do anything she looked like a kicked puppy. Make some reservations, do something subdued like watching a movie at home after or something.

Sometimes people are just in funks where they don't feel too social, but they definitely still want attention and to feel cared for.

You should probably propose. It's really sweet that you're putting in so much thought, though. Maybe do something that shows how much time you've spent thinking about the anniversary, like painting a picture, or some other handmade item.

Try something new. My extended family used to have big vacations where a bunch of us would get together for a weekend, or part of a weekend if you couldn't get away for the whole thing, at a local resort; one year, we had three deaths in the family in rapid succession, and it frankly would've hurt too much, so we switched over to gathering at one of our houses- it made things closer and more intimate, if not "smaller" in a geographic sense. A change can do you good, when the old thing brings up too much pain.

Happy Anniversary. Perhaps a weekend getaway to an nice place with some couples activities planned. If you like the outdoors then a cabin in the mountains with fresh air, hikes in the area and romantic evening in front of a fireplace. If city then maybe a dinner theater night out. A good comedy with lots of laughs and a theme hotel room for some alone time afterwards. Depends where you live butnid on the coast then a 3 day cruise with good food and entertainment as well as time together.

Just my thoughts. Hope you find something great to do.

hi, im feeling like get her something just for her, just to do alone when she is ready to it, like a spa voucher or a massage etc... on the day a nice take away and a cuddle up movie... this lady is in severe grief so she is most likely just appearing to function and survive at this time let alone want to go out and celebrate her life...

Surprise anal always works. But if that's not your thing just go to a simple restaurant to mark the occasion rather than celebrate. Remember if a woman says it doesn't matter it probably does.
