Why would a guy want you to depend on him?

I just get the feeling that There's this guy friend of mine who seems to want me to depend on him..

Emotionally and all. Why would he want me to depend on him?

He also wants me to open up

Because he wants the validation.

Because he wants to take advantage of you in some way & that's easier to do if you need him for something.

Because he wants to be in a romantic relationship with you & thinks the chances of that will increase if he can prove he can provide for you (which like the previous, requires you to need him for something).

It's never a good sign when someone WANTS you to be dependent. There's always a reason & it's never in your best interests.

Well he keeps asking how i am. And becomes happy when i vent to him.. soo... its not in my head

Nope. It's emotional intimacy. I could tell the difference cause i have friends and none of them are like that of him. I mean it's abnormal to have these constant talks.
