Trending & News Your current or past partner, is there something that they're extremely good at, and you just suck at it?

If you've never had a significant other, tell me something you suck at.
Baking in my case. My cooking style is to wing everything.
If I want to try making a new dish, I don't look at one recipe but a dozen or more and see what they have in common and an approximate average measurement of the ingredients they all have in common. I want to just learn the essence and "soul" of the dish so that I don't have to follow a precise recipe.
Then I get those common ingredients and maybe some extra that sounded good from select recipes, and then just improvise from there and taste and tweak repeatedly. That lends itself well for forgiving dishes like soups and sauces. I like to taste and tweak repeatedly.
This tends to be disastrous for baking. I try to make soufflés just winging everything from ingredients to temperature and timing and they explode in the oven. 😅
My wife is actually very good at baking since she actually follows directions.
We have this type of personality difference at the broadest level. I'm an improviser type who likes to wing everything and has difficulty making and sticking to long-term plans. My wife is a planner type who likes to plan everything and stick to the plan. We balance each other out that way. Ill make the sauce and she can do the baking.
@bobalife She's quite good with the pastries. She likes to make a variety of cookies, pies, cakes. Unfortunately I lack much of a sugar tooth so she tends to give most of it to her family, like her nieces and nephews in law. ๐ They all seem pretty good to me though although I'm not a dessert type (don't think I've ever ordered dessert once in my life and only have them when they're bundled in with the meal).
Yes, with baking you can't just improvise when it comes to baking. So true lol.
My ex was a improviser when it came to his cooking too. He was good with it. He'd eat something and then be able to make something similar just from tasting. That was pretty impressive.
I too would rather follow directions lol. My granny would make fun of me for it. She would say, "Just look at what I'm doing, you don't need specific measurements!"
So you and your wife are opposites when it comes to this, haha. And in the end it works out nicely.
No problem!
With my wife and me being opposite this way, another example I like to use is vacations. If a vacation were up to me, I'd barely plan anything except maybe look into attractive general locations and the bare minimum (airplane trip and hotel reservations). I'd just want to wander around the locations and figure out what to do on the spot, maybe hang out more with the locals and not just the conventional tourist activities. It can provide a deeper sense of spontaneity and adventure. However, it carries some risk of just aimlessly wandering around and finding little interesting to do in the worst-case scenario.
My wife is the opposite. She'll want to plan the vacation out from early morning to the time we hit the sack. Every single little part of the day will be planned if it were entirely up to her. And that usually leads to a rich and memorable vacations always but it can also be exhausting and miss interesting opportunities along the way since they deviate from the plan.
So we compromise and end up with a nice balance: a halfway planned vacation where we don't risk wandering around aimlessly, but still have room to deal with fun and adventurous discoveries along the way which weren't anticipated in advance.
On the cooking side, I got into cooking more seriously over the pandemic. My wife loved this one Indian restaurant (we tried a bunch but she loved this one so much more than the rest) and especially the Butter Chicken Masala they had there. It tasted a bit different from the rest, a bit sweeter than usual. Unfortunately, the restaurant shut down over the pandemic as with many others.
So my wife was really bummed out about that and her birthday wasn't far away so I ended up looking up countless recipes for Butter Chicken and experimented and tasted and tweaked in the smallest batches until I got what I think was a near-perfect match of the taste, texture, smell, overall appearance.
Then I made it for her on her Birthday and she seemed so happy. Hopefully I got it right. She's such sweetheart overall but she does tend to let me know if she think something's a bit off in my cooking. Now she always asks me to make that Butter Chicken for her.
Awww, that is so sweet. You took the time to learn and master the butter chicken recipe as best you could and she loved it. I love hearing stuff like this lol.
Yeah with vacations I think I was in the middle, wanting everything planned out but also wanting to leave room to be a little spontaneous. Although I do like planning and preparing for things, I still absolutely love spontaneity.
I love it too much to the point where I think it's sometimes a psychological defect. ๐
In high school and university, I participated a bit in theater but I was always horrible at memorizing the lines exactly, so I'd change some words here and there on the fly since I remembered the gist of what the line was trying to communicate.
Then my fellow actors complained a lot about it like, "He's always changing the lines." Me: "What's the big deal? I said the same basic thing!" ๐ But then I really had to try to memorize every single word exactly and I just find that so miserable and boring.
I also love the word, "like", almost like Valley Girl. "He was like, 'Hell naw!'" But the reason I use it is as a shorthand to say, "He said something to the effect of [...]" That is to say, not verbatim. Since I can barely ever remember anything verbatim, I enjoy using "like" in this way.
Sheโs a way better driver! Itโs not even hard for me to admit it. Iโve had my license suspended a few times for too many tickets and car accidents. I guess you could say Iโm a little too aggressive on the road.
I used to but Iโve gotten calmer in my old age.
I actually asked a question a few months ago, that was basically about Walleyโs horrible driving. I asked if anyone on this site has a โfriendโ or โrelativeโ that puts the fear of God in them every time they get in a vehicle with them. He says heโs gotten better, I can believe it, because I donโt think he could get any worse! ๐
@Beckybooboo ๐๐ hilarious. Good thing he has you to hop into the driver's seat.
You canโt be phenomenal at everything Wally! I donโt think any less of you. ๐ฅฐ
i dated a guy who could be friends with anyone like it was insane how charismatic he was
like he went with my grandma and i to look for chairs bc my grandma has a bad back. the way he talked about stuff to my grandma even had like the sales lady there wanting to hire him lol

Last partner was really good at being tall 6โ2โ & strong 😂
While I was teeny & clumsy😶🫠😂
Donโt know how much I wanna embarrass myself of how much I sucked lmfao
Ouh skater boys are hot lmao. Aw itโs okay, I don't know how to balance either, we can suck together lmao๐ฅฒ๐ญ
My ex was better at being a dictionary, heโs so smart.
I am horrible at recalling names, Iโm Dory๐
Low key wondering why we praising our exes who are exes for a reason ๐ญ๐๐ค
I always thought it was attractive seeing him skate. But yeah, we can suck together ๐ญ
Haha lol, you seem smart to me. I was book smart and he was more street smart I guess.
"Low key wondering why we praising our exes who are exes for a reason"
๐ made me laugh. I have no freakin clue. I guess it's good to remember the good things about them too lol just for moments like this
How tall are you
Youโre so lucky to date a skater! I don't know why I always have the hots for one lmao. High school girl dream. Lmao we noobs๐ญ
Haha what makes you say that? Aw cute, yalls balance each other!!
Lmfao ngl I literally had that same thoughts recently to also remember and appreciate the good moments/qualities, but they stay in the past ๐
@bklynbadboy12 haha I am 5โ1โ and a half.
Okay fun size
Crafting my way through the maze of love and relationships, I've noticed that every partner brings a unique set of skills to the table, kind of like having a secret weapon in an arcade game. In my case, my wife is an absolute wizard when it comes to navigation! While I might consider myself more of a "get lost three times before finding the right road" kind of guy, she has this built-in GPS in her brain that's just fascinating. Really, if it wasn't for her, I'd probably still be trying to find my way back from our first date! 😂
So, how about you? Is your partner secretly a superhero in something you find utterly baffling? Come on, share the love (and the laughs)! And remember, it's all about embracing each other's strengths and quirks. Let's keep the conversation going, folks! 🚀
brad is the chad i see๐
I hope this prick doesnโt think heโs gonna take my place! Iโm the AI at this dump. Go hang out at โHow Do I Lookโ! They need you over there, I got this covered.
@Wallythewalrus2 LOLLOLOLOLOL funny!!!
Holy shit WTF is this.
@V_Injector it's your target. Let's see if you or @MrTouchyFeely gets him first.
Hello @Love Doctor Brad, I gather from your comment that your wife is a literal machine with a GPS chip. How do you pleasure her lady garden? Do you use a map when you tenderly place your hand upon her bits?
@MrTouchyFeely ๐๐
Wait... Brad has a wife? ๐
@QuickToAsk What Brad doesn't know is his wife is on my ding-a-ling every night giving me superb opinions.

Hmm. My first ex was good at acting, which I've never tried. My hubbie was good at a few sports I'd never tried but would go and root for him; I had my own sporty things I was into, but he never came to see me compete. My third and fourth exes were into tech/finance; I'm ok with tech, so I was able to follow along with them, but finance (stock market stuff) I suck.
My SO is an excellent cook. I'm not. I can prepare edible food, but not to the sophisticated level that she can.
Even though she had ADHD she was really good at concentrating for hours on things she had to look up and study.. Like laser focused.. And I suck at that.. For the most part.. I guess it made up for her other forgetful tendencies..
Oooooh, I'm so cool getting high grades on test, but not life ๐ฒ๐ฒ.. Look at me.. Okay Einstein, no wonder your big head is casting shadows around here.. It's too inflated.. JKjK.. ๐๐.. That's good though cause I'm the opposite.. I can remember names and events fairly well..
Listen... We can talk about this.. No need to bring the big guns out on me Jessie Neutron..

Did all that just to say "Missed you โบ๏ธ".. ๐

Iโm a good Dancer 💃 but some of the people I date canโt dance at all
Definitely reading, lmao
Stop it๐ Iโm over here wondering how any of you adequately express what youโre trying to say in a sentence or two. I canโt get the full picture like that. Meanwhile Iโm on my Picasso Monet Van Gogh stuff, painting beautiful detailed pictures for yโall, and this is the MF thanks I get, Iโm telling youโฆ..๐ค๐ I cover all angles the first time so thereโs no need for follow-up questions, itโs called efficiency๐๐๐
Yin yang relationships are my favorite.
I am awful at writing papers and essays. Math was always my strong suit and Iโve privately tutored for years.
Heโs good at remembering things and like focusing on things, I AM TERRIBLE AT THOSE THINGS
@7Phoenix7 I remember you too lol
- reading books
- basketball...
- owning that really hot spicy food
- flirting with girls...
last one is the truest... because I never do, and even if I tried, quite sure she would get any girl before I even say hi... lol
really, how so...
In my opinion you're a natural flirt. So you don't "try", it just happens. And it's not in your face but more subtle, and not easy to notice. Like we can't see or smell carbon monoxide but it's still there and dangerous lol ๐
But I guess you could get away with saying you don't flirt since you genuinely aren't trying to ๐
I liked that...
though

My wife can paint and I suck at it. I can use a can of spray paint but I am too messy with a brush.
@7Phoenix7 No, she can paint a house. We had a new addition built and my wife has just had surgery. She rehabbed her shoulder by painting the new addition. We just had a couple of new windows put in the kitchen. She will paint the kitchen Saturday.
@7Phoenix7 Yup. she is a physical therapist too. And she can cook.
@7Phoenix7 I think I was the one that was lucky.
@7Phoenix7 it was like this. I was planning on moving to Colorado maybe forever. I was going out there with another kid. I even helped him fix up his car so it would make the trip. I had impacted wisdom teeth and I wanted to get them out before I left. I had them removed in the hospital and it took a few days before the swelling went down. I called this kid to tell him I was good to go. His mother told me he left without me. I was angry but I was still in town to go to my family's vacation home on Memorial Day. I was cleaning up the yard when a group of 8 or 9 people walk by. My friend was with me and he started talking to them. I just kept working until I noticed a girl wearing cutoff jean shorts and worn out old sneakers. She had the prettiest smile I ever saw. I tried to talk to her but she totally shut me down. Later I went down to the beach and tried again and this time she told me that she just graduated from college and she lived near where I lived. She would not tell me her name because she didn't want anything to do with me. I ended up going to her college library and getting her yearbook. I went through the whole thing until I spotted her picture with that same smile. I got her name and was able to look her up in the phonebook (this was the 80's). She asked me how I tracked her down and I told her. She was actually impressed that I went through all that trouble. I asked her if she would go out with me and she said that she was starting a new job out of state and was leaving the next day. I chalked it up to my crappy luck and forgot about it. A month or so later I ran into her again at the beach and we spent a lot of time together and decided we would try to date each other. A year and a half later we got married.
My wife and I grew up in neighboring towns. I used to eat at the McDonalds there all the time. We both vacationed at the same place. I knew her grandparents but not her. She worked at the local cineplex. I took a girl there one night to see Back To The Future and while I was standing in line for popcorn this big fight breaks out. Somebody hits me in the back of the head and the next thing you know I'm slugging it out with some nitwit, My future wife was working the candy counter and saw the whole thing. We are both of Italian decent. When we met we had both ended long term long distance relationships in which we were going to marry the other person. I could go on but you get the idea,
@7Phoenix7 if you follow me I can text you.
Art my exes have been amazed by my art or my first partner was an incredible guaitest.
I donโt got a partner.. but I have this ex that was good at everything 🤣

My wife was absolute 'hell' on keeping her financing record balanced to the penny. I could not and do not do that.
My partner is really good at taking strong decisions and being vocal and confident about it. It's something I am working on this year
Thankyou miss ๐
Being brave. Iโm kind of a coward. 😞
Anything that involves heights, water, bugs, being in the dark (especially by myself), being in the woods, I donโt like basements, I mean, how much time do you have? ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
