Possibly because they are and she feels disclosure is appropriate to her partner. Making her boyfriend a little jealous might be a side benefit.

Girls have claimed the former to me but I am not convinced the later was their principal objective.

Never in my life have I told guys I’m with about other guys hitting on me, only time I ever did it was when the guy I was with wasn’t paying me much attention. Sad when others will give you more attention than your own partner.
I don’t mean to jump the gun, I’m answering based off experience and opinion as I know how women work… because I am a woman.
I don't know maybe send her through pound town and tell her how things will really work from now on.
