My style is divisive. I'm very chatty and like to really open up to people right away and treat strangers like family, best friends.

The ones that reciprocate and share just as freely often very, very quickly become my friends. I even have two I made just sitting next to each other on airplanes who now visit me in Japan from time to time.

Yet some people are really put off by my forwardness and openness and eagerness to chat. For those, I try to tone it down but I generally don't succeed in building a relationship.

It's very easy for me to make new acquaintances and later friends among strangers but not with everyone or even close. 😅

Also it's generally easier for me with women than men. I like to focus on the subjective over the objective.

If I use a stereotypical example, consider an English teacher asking students to write a book report. I think men are more likely to write a concise summary of the book without diving deep into the subjective, while women might generally focus more on the subjective like how the book made them feel, how it relates to their childhood, etc. I'm generally more interested in the latter since I can just find a concise summary of the book through a Google search on my phone these days.

So I like to share things in the realm of deep subjectivity and I click well with people who reciprocate and do the same.

With men, I tend to make friends less through conversation and more through doing fun activities together like playing sports, arm wrestling, things of this nature. We only occasionally have deep conversations. Most of the times we just talk about hot girls or something like that.

@handsomelad70 I think that's a legit strategy and opening up too freely did get me in trouble in the past. The way I always saw it though is that if we freely share with everyone, then we don't need to trust people. Since if they betray our trust and tell other people what we shared, then those other people will be like, "Yeah, we know. He already told us."

It's like fighting in the nude as I see it. We don't have to worry about kinks in our armor.

I'm far more reticent with women than men because as a man, I can usually decipher men's intentions. Because of historic nurturing, most women tend to be coy re. their intentions.

@handsomelad70 Same to a degree, although I think a lot of us guys also enjoy a physical activity. At least I would feel slightly awkward to sit down with a guy at a private table at a bar and do nothing but chat for long periods of time. Our attentions might both start to drift towards a television or hot waitress or something like that.

So I often find it helpful with guys to introduce an activity in the middle like pool or darts or playing some sports together. Seems to help the conversation flow.
