My boyfriend says sorry all the time, does it mean anything at all?

Whenever we argue and I say things irritate me he does, he says sorry but I don't see or feel any behavior improvement from him. I don't see that he tries to fix them. He keeps saying sorry but never fixes things. I don't think that saying sorry implies anything at all anymore.

I’d you guys are both in your 30s (or older), the guy has go-to behaviors, some of which are basically set in stone after years of getting by with them. In a relationship it’s important to distinguish patterns in action and communication to note which values are his “core”/unbreakable habits and which are open to (minor) adjustment to accommodate the relationship. HOWEVER, don’t stay with a guy expecting major changes in character bc you’ll just become frustrated….


So whatever it is he’s apologizing about, you have to figure out if it’s something he’s actually capable of changing or if it’s something he’s not….

He’s apologizing to put the conflict to rest. He isn’t meaningfully apologizing because he doesn’t think he’s in the wrong and he expects you also don’t think you’re wrong. That’s pretty normal among straight couples in western societies.
