It's my personal preference for a woman or anyone to have a cooking ability that is at least on par with what would sustain & aid human health/life. So, as long as the food is cooked thoroughly enough to kill the most pathogens possible without damaging the nutrients in it or making it too carcinogenic, then it's good enough for me.

But I do prefer to cook for myself nowadays. This is because most people don't eat as strictly & healthily as I do, so they likely wouldn't measure the serving size to portion or avoid adding unhealthy additions like adding too many/much fat, salt, sugar, oils, etc.

I think it's important it's not mandatory... . I mean I can cook and I can cook very well and what I like about cooking is the same thing I would like about a woman cooking and that is being able to put things together on a whim and make it taste unbelievably good because that just means that she's creative and I like that more out of a woman then knowing how to cook. I think everyone should learn how to cook reasonably well. You don't need to be a chef, but knowing how to make roasts tender and juicy, how to mash potatoes without over-mashing, how to steam vegetables without over-cooking them, how to fix several salads and a basic dressing, those are basic skills both men and women should have. With YouTube, it's easier than ever.

However, is it a dealbreaker for a relationship? No. It's easy to learn to cook, and it's a fun activity to do as a couple.

The main thing I would say to guys on here is this: If you marry a woman, it's a good idea to ensure that she gets a break from cooking once or twice a week, preferably three times. Meals get to be a grind, no matter how good of a cook we are. It's even worse if we are pregnant and the smell of food is nauseating. Stock some decent frozen pizzas, organic frozen veggies, organic fruit and frozen yogurt cubes for smoothies, etc. Basically anything pre-prepped and/or frozen is good, and you can still eat pretty healthy. Costco has some great options now. Just a thought...

Both. The old hackneyed saw about "make me a sandwich" is a lousy way to dismiss someone, but a key- perhaps THE key- part of making relationship work is finding ways to make your partner feel loved. Feeding them is a great way of doing that (I can confirm that this DOES work on women, though I suspect it's better on men), especially if it's something you've made yourself.

It needn't be something complex, either; it's more about the gesture of caring and support (and the calories, of course) than the effort or difficulty.

Not just confined to the woman , I think everyone should at least know how to cook the basics , its a part of survival , and my cooking is basic , and its cheap to eat out here , but some times just so convenient to stay home.
