Take your time when dating, always ask questions. If they want a relationship or not or what are they looking for etc this will help you understand what they want. If they are serious about a relationship or if they just want to be friends with benefits. You want to be able to be yourself and express any concerns without feeling judged. Communication will always be the best and it is always good to be friends first because you get to know the person well and they get to know you and then you figure out if you guys are compatible etc. Relationships should bring you peace and happiness and you should never feel like you can't trust your partner

I think some initial signs that a relationship can work are

1) You enjoy some similar activities
2) There are a few things you like about their personality
3) You have aligning values in life

Beyond that I believe that it all comes down to commitment. Are you willing to commit to each other? Are you willing to change for the other person? Are you willing to put them before yourself)

Of course, all of that HAS to be reciprocated otherwise it won't work out.
