A little space means what?

My boyfriend for over 2 years is going through a huge family crisis with a close family member getting diagnosis with terminal illness, and asked me for a "little space". I respect this boundary, but I am also unsure for what this means. Any opinion and advice would help

Lots of things are there:

1. He accepted you as part of happiness (subconsciously) so in this bad phase doesn't want to include you.

2. Some people don't want to take help from others by their own because they can be made fun of this one time in future. He might me thinking that you will use this matter in future. MEANS FEELING INSECURE.

THINGS TO DO:

Help without asking for help. Say one thing "I'm with you in your every phase and it happens with everyone and if you want, help me whenever I'm in distress".

If possible try to join with his family instead of him by picking of his mom.

MEANS GIVING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT.

REMEMBER:

Just give him some time, it could be a few hours, a few days...

Right now, his mind is going at 100mph on how to handle that... He doesn't want to say the wrong thing to you and create another problem for himself, so he's asking u for a little space.

I wouldn't say anything and just wait for him to talk to you when he's ready. Even a text or two might make him feel like he's being badgered.
