I ignore them as much as possible. If it's persistent or something that can't be ignored for whatever reason, I sweetly ask for them to a) repeat their statement or b) ask what they mean. If you do it publicly, it puts them on the spot without you appearing to overreact. After all, you are just asking them to clarify, like any good communicator...
