How can I be a fun person?

I have to stop this habit of being a narcissist, my heart will turn to stone

Some people would suggest going to a planetarium; seeing the vast scope and scale of the cosmos and the essential puniness of one human woman against the enormousness of all that. But I'm dubious; I've always found that contemplating that makes me feel bigger- gifted by the gods with something so vast to explore, complex to puzzle out, and glorious to take stewardship of.

So I'll suggest going the opposite direction and finding a baby (a cousin or somesuch, ideally; you want one that you can spend a bunch of time around without it seeming like you're up to something), and hanging around with them for a good long while. Of course, a baby isn't much fun when it's sleeping, which is much of the time, but watching and interacting with them will show you that Thoreau was right: "Infancy conforms to nobody; all conform to it, so that one babe commonly makes four or five out of the adults who prattle and pray to it.". Even if you're not the type to drop into baby-talking with him or her, the sight of that little mind, racing far faster than yours or mine, trying to figure out the world, is a blow that few fortresses of self-centeredness can withstand. And the rush that comes of helping them work some part of it out... words can't describe it.

I first met me nephew when he was three months old. At one point, I was watching him in his little swingy cradle thing while my sister took a nap, and when the conversation (which was, naturally, very one-sided) trailed off, he began kicking and flailing his arms, trying to work out how to move himself. I braced my arm against his feet, and when he'd kick out with one, I'd gently tell him "No, both feet, at the same time". When that finally clicked and he kicked with both legs at once, pushing against me and sliding the whole thing he was in back a good six inches, a smile lit up his face that's brightened my thoughts ever since.

Just do something for others, or if you want to start slow, learn to listen to people. Narcissists tend to listen to the first five words until they construct a witty retort that will force everyone to listen to them. But try to listen to the whole point someone else is making, then compliment them on it.

You can't just stop being a narcissist, that's mental health, but then again people do just throw that word around like it's nothing these days... If you want to be a fun person, find what you like doing any hobbies? Interest? I'm sure you'll find something.
