Because I want them to know that they are no longer welcome in my life anymore, and in my opinion simply un friending someone is telling them that they may have a place in your life, not now but eventually depending.

Seriously. I've never blocked a single person I've ever actually known, and even on GAG I only block spam accounts or people who blocked me first (sometimes it tells me for some reason).
