I’m also that to my ex. He was the one that broke up with me and he regretted it lol he’s still single even after 4 years. We have no bad blood with each other tho. But I’m keeping my distance just so that he won’t get any ideas that I might still into him.

I feel like the concept of “the one that got away” only applies to people you’ve never truly build a relationship with. It could be a summer fling or someone you briefly dated, but usually it’s not someone you’ve spent years together with.

I’ve never had someone that “got away” or consider myself to have been that. Any of my previous relationships just didn’t work out because I missed/dismissed massive red flags or we were just not seeing eye to eye on goals/had different views on life. After seeing a therapist my perspective on that feeling of missing someone is mostly unresolved attachment because of trauma or can stem from some sort of abandonment issues.
