It’s irritating because of the fact that either someone has zero patience to wait for a response if someone doesn’t respond in 5 minutes or has a life oh my gosh!
At the same time if a person is ignoring somebody and it’s taking hours even days or longer when you know for a fact that he or she has read it. It’s either they’re playing games or what’s more likely they just aren’t that interested.
My gosh, there is a lot of people out there who will genuinely give you attention but people tend to waste their time trying to win someone over.
Yes, people should be able to communicate how they feel even if the truth hurts in a respectful way. Many people don’t have the courage even over a screen it’s sad.
It’s also really weird in real life you wouldn’t just stop talking to someone and walk off. People should know how to close a conversation by saying goodnight or I gotta do this or that.
But at the end of the day if someone’s leaving you on read…. Oh well. If they were into you then the jokes on them. More likely then not if someone won’t talk to you they just don’t like you. Other times yeah they’re playing games but why play games anyways
Not at all. There are many other more serious complaints about people, companies, government... the entire gamut.
Well, I mean people have feelings and they are just expressing them. Nothing wrong with it. They are just venting and probably trying to ask for advice or help. It's not very fun being left on read. Sure it can get annoying but understand their side. Not everyone is the same
I understand it tho.
But being left on open is way worse. That means you were seen AND dismissed.
I concur, the perceptions of textual conversations have changed a lot overtime, I recognize this awkwardness of being called when I could be texted to... Aside from dislikes and phobia, it has something to do with how much we appreciate the act of writing also. I like writing a lot, so
@Maybe_Maybe_not Texting just seems very lazy.
@Maybe_Maybe_not I like texting because you can think about what you say and how it sounds before you send it. Also you can read back so if someone does read it wrong you can analyse it yourself and gain perspective.
There's been times when I have been upset with my guy-friend and think he is being a dick but then when I've calmed down and looked back on our conversation I feel so bad because there were ways he was trying to be sweet.
But I guess that's also problem with text. Because maybe in a phone call there would be less misunderstanding thanks to tone.
@Nikki1989 I have been trying more phone calls. Even some video. Which is even worse haha. It's fine for work but otherwise it depends a lot on how the other person is, if they are easy to talk to then I will get into my flow just like with my words.
@Maybe_Maybe_not haha yes well I do notice similarities in the way we flow and message here so it's not surprising we on the same page with this.
Not many guys are so fluent in typing though. So many do prefer phone calls I think.
I actually saw something in an article about dating saying its a good sign if you have similar texting/communication habits.
The way I see it, the typing folks are often, if not always, the intellectual-focused folks. If you want less phonecallers, you need more intellectuals in your pool. Bait them with books LOL
@Maybe_Maybe_not I was actually thinking that but wasn't gonna say it out loud here 🙈
I think it's TOO LATE 🤣
@Maybe_Maybe_not haha well technically you said it. I just confessed I thought it. But had restraint lol
Here's a conundrum tho.. my recent ex was very frequent and fluid in texting. So in terms of length and consistency we matched. But he did not match on my intelligence level. His "long frequent" texts tho were full of misspellings (of simple words) so maybe that's a clue too lol as well as use of English language? And content too. Haha for instance... a guy recently sent me like twenty text messages in a row. Long ones. Does that denote intelligence? Erm... I will paste a couple here and I think will demonstrate my point nicely lol. You may not want to read it tho lol. *Take this as fair warning.*
"Where do you live because next time I will be there in a flash... oh yeah definitely going to be fucking you senseless as much as possible every day I can get the pleasure to omg fuck raw and ohhh shit puuuush"
"I can't wait any longer ohhhh goodness 😩 I literally am just about to start spraying everywhere night and I have to have you asap mmhh"
"Oh fucking shit I should be able to stop myself from the amount I just ejaculated seriously I can't wait to finally get my dick deep inside you all night long sexy omg you have to let me shoot plugging it up tight in your pussy so that you can't even handle the pressure of my cum over filling your sexy pussy 😋 seriously hope you have contraception cuz it's not going to stop me now cuz I have to be fucking you senseless and exploding raw"
🤣🤣🤣
Well, you're right I didn't need to read that to get your point, I should have paid more attention to the warning lol
Intellect is not intelligence though, these words are misleading, intellect is rational thinking, going towards abstraction. While intelligence is much more than that, much more broad. As for punctuation and vocabulary, that's not intellect nor intelligence, that's entirely education/school :D
I'm well aware of the correlation between intellect and grammar though, but it's just this, a correlation, not causality. Because I've seen some guys and gals who were intellectual, cognitively, but out of school, so they were mainly limited by insufficient language, which is not a brain trait, its a socio-economic issue
@Maybe_Maybe_not ohh yes. I get that. I feel like I have intelligence. But I am not someone who can list off dates in history or name all the capital cities of the world. Which is generally how people perceive intelligence (ie knowledge). And through large periods of my life I tend to keep myself to myself and not gather trivia haha. Also text speech has eroded a lot of my spelling and language. I use "lol" way too much. And abbreviate. Which I enjoy doing when writing long messages like this. But I see how for someone of your calibre it can maybe get mildly irritating? To see the erosion of language lol
I have actually consciously made an attempt to abbreviate less when I respond to you here...
But yes I guess what is intelligence and intellect is quite an open debate...
When I told my daughter I was doing a degree and trying to become more intelligent she fell on the floor with laughter (literally).
Some people can be very emotionally and socially smart? Which is where I think my strengths have grown (though I'm struggling with my own emotions). Some people have the "street smarts" but maybe be illiterate when writing and unknowing of knowledge in a general cultural historical sense. (i. e my last boyfriend)
Some people can be super knowledgeable, like walking encyclopaedias but no smarts at all in life skills.
I took my daughter out of school (still debatable if right decision at this point) but mainly because the mental toil on her wellbeing doesn't seem worth it to learn "knowledge" thar is soon forgotten after leaving school. Obviously she is doing maths and English at home (and science) but I think learning to live and thrive in this world is more "intelligent" than knowing about the battle of Hastings or order of monarchy throughout history. As a person who does love the learn.. I also know she can always learn these things later in life if the desire is there to do so. And having a passion towards what you are learning makes a big difference.
Perfect illustrations of the polysemous nature of the world intelligence, you said it all!
Now we're talking perceptions, and perceptions targeting me, fun topic I like that 😅
And you're very open about it so let's see what you perceive, calibre? I'm flattered haha, yes, I'm serious about language but not in the way you think. You expect snob-ism, even language purity from me, and I understand your line of thoughts. The funny thing is that, when you think about language, the complexity involved, and when you look at it from a distance then you realize that "lol" is a very interesting, and practical sign. In fact every artefact of communication is interesting when you tale language seriously. You'll see me using these "lol" often, like you do, because I like the concept as much as the fun it carries :D
I will add more, anyone serious (and smart) about linguistics cannot praise language purity, because the damn language is all about diversity, eolution and polysemy, that's the core of it !
"lol" as a sign is a curiosity, exactly because of how it is used, the interpretations it carries, its variants etc. The people defacing such a word are not smart, or intellectual,
they are simply grumpy people

That and the height ones. Like get over it if you're 5 foot 6. You can't help your height but you can help how you present yourself. I was with a 5 foot 6 guy and he was wonderful because he didn't focus on his height which I knew was a major insecurity but he hid it well and worked on all the things he could control.
This question 🤣
Well, if people really dislike read receipts, they are ways, if I'm right you can disable read receipts on many messenger apps. There is even, Discord, I think disabling it by default?
text disabled wow, I kinda understood you were a super bold personality, but that is the next level 😅
Maybe?
I just hate relationship questions that are posted anon and with ZERO context lmao like wtf we supposed to do with that?
Yes but the "I was held hostage then raped by him, beaten and left in a ditch to die" Do you think this means anything? Questions are far worse.
"he looked at me in a certain way. What does it mean?"
It's one of them for sure. Chill the fuck out and accept that some people don't have time for a full response at a particular moment.
It's a perfectly valid complaint and shouldn't be considered annoying.
Definitely one of the silliest.
no, not even close
I usually just skip over those questions.
Not in the slightest
Damn right it is.
i'm not following i guess
