I think it's pathetic, and I actively advise against them any time a friend or acquaintance mentions it.

100% of the open relationships I've seen have involved one party (usually the woman, and they usually were already seeing someone else) pulling it on the other after they've been together for a while, in a couple cases after marriage. By going down that road, you're openly acknowledging the relationship as superficial and expendable while basically demanding carte blanche to cheat. It is inherently disrespectful, and I absolutely would dump a girl for even suggesting it.

The ONLY way I would do it is if it were a quad, and all four people dated, and it were equal love on all sides. And that's damn near impossible. But I would do it.
