This is one of those bits of early Christianity that's obviously just Manicheanism with a fresh coat of paint. Paul was, as the literary record shows, an anti-Zionist agent of Roman imperialism, and probably, as it suggests, a self-castrated homosexual. It's not at all surprising that he'd value the Zarathustran dismissal of the world as evil while ignoring the Jewish celebration of the world as a creation of God.

If the world was truly so devoid of value, we wouldn't be here. IT wouldn't be here. Wholesale rejection of it, rather than just making it a lower priority, is not only a violation of the "go forth and multiply" command, but an insult to God- on top of being logically inconsistent with valuing life. If this world is so irredeemable, then Christians should make penance for their sins, get baptized, take the Eucharist (in whatever order their denomination says to), and then commit suicide, or at least be killed.

According to Jesus, some people have been given the gift of singleness in order to better serve the Lord in some capacity. Those “who can accept this” choose to forego marriage and remain celibate. This corresponds with Paul’s reference to those who serve the Lord in their unmarried state in 1 Corinthians 7.

I think Paul said that it is better to be married than to sin (with sex out of marriage). In marriage, all is legal, whereas single people are not allowed to have sex as it will turn to sin, such as by lusting after women or watching porn, which does the same thing. That is why priests and nuns being celibate and not allow to marry doesn't seem to work out well for them. Singleness is not necessarily a higher calling, depending on how you carry and conduct yourself.

The way I see it is; if you want to live like how Jesus lived, it is good to be single. But if you want to learn how to love like how Jesus loved, it is good to be married.
