I have a long term (male) friend who I’ve known since I was 12 and he was 11. I am now 24, going through a divorce after 6 months of marriage and he is now 23 with a child (not even 5 years). Personally that’s not a dealbreaker for me because he genuinely is a good guy. However, my question is should I pursue a friendship with this old flame? We admitted that we liked each other in grade 11 and we just got back in contact literally a few days ago lol. What should I do? I honestly liked him since I was 12 and I am friends with his sister (also since 12). Is this fate or am I trippin. Please be real because this is something I really want but I’m nervous on how to move forward because my marriage turned out to be a big flop/fail! HELP LOL!

Personally, I would be a little hesitant. There are several factors that make me think that this is perhaps not the best thing to do.

1. You are divorced and that is already the first issue. We don't know of course the background and reasons of your divorce. That is also not relevant to know but it is an issue because who says divorce, also says relationship issues.

2. He has a kid but you don't mention that he is married or is divorced. Thus this is the 2nd. problem. Why does he have a kid and not a partner? He had his kid when he was barely 18 years old.

Two "wrongs" don't make a right. Both of you had previous issues with their partners and going into a new relationship is not a warrant that it will work out.

He is desperately in need of a mother for his kid and that is probably his main reason why he wants to be in a new relationship.

Those factors would be enough for me to hold myself back and just keep your friendship as a platonic one and not try to involve feelings that may be gone in a year or so.
