Men, how do you make women feel safe with you?

Question aimed at men but women are welcome too to share their opinion on how a man can make them feel safe.

I got told women generally are comfortable with me because I have this vibe that generally calms people down. Also the fact that if given chance, I like talking about my wife and children at lenght, many find this wholesome.

Security is a deeply ingrained trait of mine, and I have always had to teach girlfriends about security. I have procedures for getting in and out of cars in sketchy areas, for getting into buildings, to being seated at restaurants, codewords for leaving somewhere in a hurry, etc.

On the street, I walk a half step behind her with her on the inside (away from the street) so that I can protect from threats in any direction, be it a car, bike, dog, bad guy, or whatever.

I did a number of security upgrades at my girlfriend's house and car. But more in her brain - she just didn't think about security much before, despite having some occasional fears. Now she sleeps much more soundly.

The most important thing about security is situational awareness - keeping your head on a swivel and paying attention to details. No incidents with my current girlfriend, but about a decade ago with my previous one, I gave her a codeword to leave a party immediately. She did it but she wasn't happy, until she found out that there was a big fight and lots of injuries and drama. She never questioned me again.

They are nice compliments you have been given. I don't consciously try to be calming unless a woman is clearly distraught. One female friend is very anxious and I have been having success with the line "Well we won't think or talk about that because it may not happen" and it does seem to help her.

Distraction does work. Neurons that fire together group together and like broken record that jumps back a track, our mind can do something similar. Distraction can stop the emotional looping. In some cases we might be the distraction if she likes us. :)

Generally I think men are more unflappable then women and I think if we show concern, interest and calmness then we are calming. That broadly seems to have worked for me.

Men need to respect a woman's boundaries and consent. Never pressure them to do anything they are not comfortable with.

You answered the question. I'd say it's not even gender-based, or human-based even. I expect many mammals to feel safer when presented with calmness and openness, including humans. It signals peace instead of danger.

By treating them with respect, moderating my tone, never losing my temper. Also, I find listening to them a lot, helps. Be interested in what they have to say, and look like it.

I don’t. Women don’t make me feel safe when I’m around them so why should I make women feel safe around me? They don’t deserve it. The law is on their side and not men’s. Why do women need men?

By deliberately displaying the "outside of my home" side of me, while being around ANY person. This includes being kind, friendly, non-aggressive, helpful, etc... and not talking about politics, religion, or morality

It's not something I've ever thought of. I think men are the ones who have to be more careful though, more wary, especially in the workplace.

I’m 5’6” and a nice person. It takes a lot to piss me off but if you cross that line I would gladly show off some punching power.
I also was bullied when I was very young until I stood up to my bully. Then he was afraid of me.
