I guess the real question I'm trying to ask is why do cheaters contuine to try to be monogamous when they could have a more open relationship? Do they just a get thrill or something from cheating? Do they like the drama? Like it seems so simple to just find a woman that's more open to that type of lifestyle...

Well I wouldn’t judge what works for any other couple, but I have thought about what it would be like to have another girl sleep with us (I have never actually done it and doubt we will) and, the way I look at it would not work for a guy who wanted to cheat. Because among other things, I would not do it if he was going to have sex w the other girl. It would have to be that he and I had sex and she and I fooled around or had sex but the two of them did not have sex. I would not even want him touching her much. Maybe that is selfish or something but, anyway that is how it would have to be, so if he was wanting to cheat and this was a way to achieve something like that without technically cheating, it would not work for us.

I learnt this when I had my only open relationship years ago. Told my boyfriend at the time he can do whatever he likes as long as he just lets me know what he’s done afterwards and who he’s done it with so that I know he’s safe. He failed to do that twice, went behind my back and still managed to cheat even though he had every chance to sleep with other people in a relationship-safe way.

The issue with cheaters is that they enjoy cheating. That is, they enjoy "getting away" with something. Cheating has its own allure. And it's naughty.
Cheaters don't want to set up something "normal" and "planned" like having a bisexual partner and an open relationship. What FUN is that?
And I don't think cheaters want to share who they cheat with, in general, either. Whole other dynamic. And, let's face it, complicated and messy.
Better to keep all these machinations on the downlow. Like the bad boys they are.
Well, I'd say it must be difficult to go around dating and asking if it's okay to have sex with other people with the risk of weirding out the person.
That said, it definitely pays off to have this kind of conversation early, about what's okay and what's not, and I am not talking only about sex. Thankfully my wife and I are on the same page about those things, but of course we always check up on each other if something is okay or not.
As for cheaters - do they just a get thrill or something from cheating? Yeah, that's pretty much it. Probably it wouldn't be as exciting if the partner gave permission for those kind of people.

I think part of it is the lack of thrill when they get consent. It is a whole different feeling when you cheat without your partner knowing. It sounds horrible but this is coming from someone I know, who has been cheating on her partner multiple times. Her man has openly told her that he is okay to have an open relationship/threesome arrangement but that doesn’t seem to stop her from cheating.
