I’ve been dealing with a new wave I wasn't aware about with PTSD, depression, and unresolved emotions, which have made me more emotionally expressive, including crying unintentionally and struggling to communicate clearly.
I’ve been working on managing this by talking to therapists and coaches and practicing ways to express myself better, like taking time to write things down. Because i want to better myself
However, my partner recently shared that my emotional responses sometimes trigger his past traumas, which I didn’t know until now.
This dynamic has caused tension between us, and I wish he had shared his feelings earlier so I could have adjusted sooner. I’ve asked him for simple grounding gestures, like a firm touch on my shoulder, to help me self-regulate, but he feels conflicted because of his own triggers, and he doesn't seem to understand that I personally understand that he needs his time and space sometimes.
To know he did voice that his own responses and stuff was just as new to him as mine are to me and we both sort of opened that barrier.
How can we navigate this situation in a way that respects both of our needs and traumas while giving him time to feel comfortable about approaching it himself?
I want to show him that I’m actively working on my emotional health and help us communicate better so we can support each other without putting too much pressure on our relationship. How can I approach this conversation in a way that fosters mutual understanding and growth?
