How often does a successful relationship (and bright future) not go as planned?

I feel bad for a female member I've once spoke to here. She had everything in her life; good economic stability herself, good upbrining, marriage at age 24/25 and a loving husband. She married her first... was a virgin when she met him. Everything was so perfect and both were ready to have kids... so what can go wrong in this apparently perfect timing, perfect situation and the best for a woman that age? Both discovered the husband is sterile (meanwhile she's very fertile) and will never be able to impregnant her due to two medical conditions.

This has caused a delay in their plans and they would likely have to rely on either a sperm donor (only she's the mother) or adoption, more costly. The dude obviously was destroyed. She was devastated to the point of deleting her account. I haven't heard from her since. Ever now and then, I wondered how they're doing.

How often can a relationship that was moving forward so perfect and had a great future, suddenly not go as planned? So close and bang, something ruins it.
