What are your thoughts on the show 90 Day Fiancé?

I've been binging both old and new seasons lately and it's jarring how many of the relationships portrayed are trashy and borderline abusive (although I suspect some are staged with actors).

I see some few genuine relationships in there but most are obviously transactional, for example the smoking hot Russian supermodel who made it clear she was after money and a green card, or the sixty-something guy who flew in a barely twenty years old from the Philippines (yikes).

Or also how the foreign partner makes no effort to integrate themselves into American culture and customs, even though they want citizenship - this ticks me off a bit because I am currently residing in the US and I am doing my best to a good "honorary" American, I even fly the Stars and Stripes on my lawn. One of my friends in the neighborhood is a Russian-French lady married with and American, and she too is not too fond of the TV show - in her opinion it's trash TV that puts a bad light on foreign people that actually build meaningful relationships with US citizens and not just looking for a better life, but also bring added value.

Been watching it since the series started and I enjoy it. I don't watch much TV so it's pretty much the only show I watch weekly.

It has a whole bunch of different versions which can get confusing. The only one I like is the the main shows. I don't like the pillow talk, I'm not crazy about the Tell Alls, and I really hate this new thing where they're at a resort and get in counseling on Monday nights. Not interested in that at all.

But still enjoy the regular shows. Yeah a lot of the people are nuts, but it's still fun.

Interestingly my sibling had a chance to be on the show, not as one of the couples but they wanted to shoot one of the episodes of one of the couples at the location of one of my siblings businesses. But their lawyer didn't like the paperwork they had to sign in order to allow them to shoot the show at that location so they passed on it. Too bad, would have been fun to see my sibling on the show.

I stopped watching reality tv 100% around 2017 and even then I had cut it down to only positive/uplifting type content like Sweetie Pie's. Just not into all the drama, negativity and fake scripting in these shows.

From what I've heard, "90 Day Fiance" sounds like a show trying to devalue marriage and make a joke out of something you should take seriously. Another sign of the decline of society.

I've never actually watched it, but I've seen plenty of clips and our family thinks it's hilarious. Especially no neck Ed, that's really the first I ever saw of it. And of course it's trash TV, and I'm sure some of it is staged. And I think it's different for foreign marriages from first world countries for sure. But at least for the Asian and some of the south American couples, it's pretty common. I know plenty of mixed foreign couples who do truly love each other, of course. I just also know plenty where it is very obvious that it is transactional. And I've seen several where it was transactional and backfired on the lady, because the husband was really abusive. But usually they just mutually use each other and they're both pretty happy

It’s TLC, of course it’s trash tv. At the same time, challenges like this naturally bring out the worst men like that one dude with no neck who was very obviously abusive to his fiance and refused to let her have any say in their shared home. Of course these relationships, handpicked and scripted for tv, are going to be insanely transactional.

I don't watch TV so I don't know the show. However, I have dated women of many nationalities (Polish, German, Ukrainian, Irish, Colombian, Brazilian, Phillipines, China, Vietnam, and India) and foreign born women obviously represent some cultural challenges but, otherwise, they are all women, some wonderful, some not wonderful, some loyal, some not, etc. I am married to a Chinese woman but if I was single, I would certainly consider dating a foreign born woman.

I saw some of the older seasons but haven't really followed it after that. Tlc has some really questionable shows lol. I think it's a dating show like any else with probably more drama than it really is in reality. The fun aspect of this was when they're from different cultures and some have very little things in common (the language barrier come on). Maybe I should check up on some newer seasons when I mostly watch love is blind or that's the show I've watched lately in the same category.

I think it shows the realistically side of our society. Many foreign women who seek money and comfort seduce American men because they know some men are vulnerable and lonely. I see all women there want money from American men and some American men fool around too. If you raised in a normal society you will see it trash. But this is what’s going on On the other side of the world. Although many successful people you see on tv are from this kind of world makes me wonder if there is really a normal world exist in our society. Everyone is twisted. And you are living in there you just don’t recognize it.

Well it is trash tv that is the whole point of the show lol. It was a fun trashy show in the beginning to see the weird dynamics of couples and just how stupid and incompatible most of them were.. But it was also nice to see the one or two couples from each season who generally loved each other too. Angela was the worst woman on the show she was totally trailer trash, poor Michael had to put up with sooo much shit from her just to get that green card and walk away LOL.

never seen. I just met an 80yr old with a quite young chinese wife that doesn't speak English. I've met a 50yr old that imported his philipine with so could have a family... no American girl wanted him.

It's a reality, how it's spun in the show who cares...
