I gave her what she wanted, why would she decline me... isn't late better than never, better than nothing?

My ex girlfriend moved 3-4 miles away after the break-up several months ago. We've been together for 6 years. I went after her to give her what she wanted. I don't mind compromising in the end. I prefer sticking to that special girl instead of going through that whole dating process (the dating pool isn't that good anymore and it's harder the older you get) over again. She was unique, hard to find.

I did asked her the question. Yet she still declined me and told me it was too late. I drove miles away from home with a hot traffic jam just for her to say no. I get that it was a last minute, late attempt but at least I tried. Wouldn't that effort make any woman reconsider? Isn't that better than nothing? Better late than never?

She used to talk about wanting a future and child with me. So why would she refuse me when I'm offering her that opportunity? I've already opened the gate. I've even told her we can go to the registrar's office or even a drive-thru and have it done next week. Why don't she accept it?
