Being a gamer is a problem and being a game AND being in a relationship is not compatible in the long run.

Gaming a few minutes each day is ok I presume but those people that game for an hour or more obviously prioritize their addiction over their relationship. This is unhealthy and a sure way to ruin any relationship.

It is a red flag and if that girl cannot see that she will always be second does not have much experience dating a person with an addiction.

The relationship cannot and will never be a serious one and is bound to fail in a very short time.

@SueShe yeah ain't nobody gaming a few minutes, an hour or 2 a day is fine. It shouldn't be a way of life -unless successful - nor an addiction.

If a guy spending as much as an hour alone doing his own hobby is enough to make you upset and insecure in the relationship you have no business dating. Gaming is just a hobby like any other it's no different than reading, watching movies, building models except for a weird artificial stigma people have created for some BS reason. If you're so controlling your SO spending one hour or more on something like that is freaking ridiculous.

@Uglygaypoorcoward94 Honestly in my opinion it doesn't matter how much you game as long as you take care of all your priorities too. So, what if I game for a few hours a day as long as I'm completing my responsibilities and making sure that I designate a fair amount of time to my partner. I don't understand why gaming has such a stigma; it's just a hobby like any other. If a guy wanted to spend two hours or maybe more a day painting than no one would care. Now that said it depends on how much free time you have in the day to decide the acceptable amount but as long as you're meeting all your partners needs and doing your job then how you spend your you time is nobody else's place to judge as long as it's not hurting anyone.

It is if you hate video games. The only thing more boring than video games is WATCHING someone play video games.

You can obviously have hobbies while in a relationship. No-lifing is a lot different than having a hobby. A lot of people use video games to cope in an unhealthy way and give gamers a bad name.

I say this as someone who uses games to cope with stress and depression that you're right when you hit that point of gamming it's not healthy, I frankly probably do have a gaming addiction but at this point I honestly don't even care anymore. Between my mental health and my finances, I'm too unstable and undesirable to have a prayer dating and I'm not good looking either, there's literally nothing appealing about me as a partner.

My stress, depression and anxiety make it impossible to hold down a job long term I'm mostly fine in the late spring and summer but in the fall and winter I basically turn into an undead and don't even feel fully alive most of the time. I can't go half the year without income, and I can't work when I'm in that state because I'm having mental breakdowns in the dish pit and crying into the dirty water. Because my brain chemistry is completely fucked up.

The meds I'm on are very expensive and private insurance doesn't like paying for some of the ones I'm on, so I'm trapped on SSI because I'm scared if I lose my insurance, I'll lose my meds. At that point I'm probably joining Hemmingway because I think about doing that A LOT in the winter months and sometimes my meds feel like the only thing holding me together at the seams.

So, since I'm on the SSI I can't work because not only do they slash your benefits, but you risk losing them and if I lose the SSI, they almost always revoke your insurance too. Even if I could work a job between the cost of living in my hometown for groceries etc. the available jobs with their available pay would leave me poorer than if I was still on the SSI.

Between taxes, groceries needing my own insurance that I have to pay for and other life expenses I'd probably have to move back in with my dad just to have some money to buy a game or go out to eat once a month. Rent alone for the cheapest apartment I could find would cost almost 2/3ds of my paycheck! On the SSI I qualify for affordable housing I get my meds and I'm fed but I hate my fucking life so god damn much and I can't figure out a way to change it because a lot of the problems I'm facing are things I have very limited control over. It's hard to act like a normal guy who's good relationship material when you're depressed and chemically unstable half the year. Nobody wants to date a whack job unless they're fantastic in bed.

So, I just don't care. I'm a gaming addict and I'm at peace with that. I have no friends I've never had a girlfriend I have no money and no life. So yes, I use games to cope because If I'm not constantly living in denial of my life, I'll go insane-r. This is a hellish way to live trust me people who live like this don't like it, they can't it's unnatural but when people fuck off from society this hard there is usually a reason.

That's my point, it's unfortunate that yes it makes gamers look bad, but this is a problem with Isolation in society most of the time at that point and a lack of belonging. In video game worlds you have a sense of control and influence in the world. You don't feel powerless and at the mercy of the economy if you're mistreated or see injustice you can do something about it instead of watching in a silent rage.

People don't become no lifers because of games, they do that because for them it feels like life ended a while ago. I'm surviving ok right now, but I haven't felt like I was alive in years if that makes sense.

The problem is when you consistently put your hobby ahead of the relationship.

  • Awww, gamer love! ❤️ Being a gamer in a serious relationship isn't a problem if you balance your priorities. Communication is key, my dear padawan! Talk about expectations and time management. If your partner feels loved and valued, you're doing great! Just don't let gaming become the third wheel in your relationship. 😉 Prioritize date nights and quality time too. Love potion, unlocked! 🎮✨

It's only a problem if you game too much.. besides that it's fine.

I would expect that provided it's not consuming too much time for other things, it's a hobby like any other.
