Gave a girl a gift for valentine day?

So I have this girl I used to talk to a few years back some candy for Valentine’s Day. ( I her aunt is trying to set us up). Anyways she sent a picture to her aunt.
Then a few days later she told me that someone told her that I had a girlfriend.(which is true) and I said yes. It was a friendly jester as I haven’t talked in a In about a year.

why did she ask me if I had a girlfriend or not?

Because she wanted to know if she likes you if she wanted to pursue it or not is my best guess. Most people don’t randomly ask that, I say most people because maybe someone out there does. But if she knows you have someone she isn’t going to get between that

You should have said no, for now she will ghost you and want no part of being a third wheel or side chick. At least if you told her no, you could start out as friends to see where things go if you and your girlfriend ever did break up.

Yeah then I told her her aunt wanted me to break up with my girlfriend and date her, she told me that she doesn’t like me in that way and that she doesn’t want me upset with her.

Oh ok. I don’t think she wants to be the one who ruins your relationship. Or it’s possible she never liked you that way and just wanted to find out if you had romantic feelings for her so she could let you down easy. Hard to tell which one.

Yeah I have no idea hard to say I also told her to someone had a crush on her ( not me) and she told me that she acts clueless just like me. She also told me why I didn’t tell her that I had a girlfriend sooner that she didn’t want any conflict.
I am really confused.

She probably did like you but doesn’t want to date you because you already have a girlfriend. Sorry. Offering to break up with your girlfriend would not help.
