Chances that they will return?

Will he come back or is it really over?

I got involved in a situationship with a coworker even though I had my doubts. We started as friends and things gradually became more emotional and physical. He told me early on he wasn’t looking for anything serious due to a past relationship, but we grew close over time. I supported him in every way—emotionally, mentally, even financially—and was consistently kind and thoughtful.

As my feelings grew, I expressed wanting to end things a few times since I didn’t think he felt the same. He never confirmed feelings, but he also didn’t deny them—just repeated that he didn’t want a relationship. We’d stop talking, then reconnect. I eventually ended things again, feeling it was one-sided. He said he couldn’t do the emotional back-and-forth, but again didn’t clarify how he felt.

Weeks later, he reached out to acknowledge something meaningful to me and re-added me on social media, which made me feel like there was still something there. But then I heard people at work knew about us. I reached out, trying to understand how it got out, and shared what I’d been told. I later discovered the information could’ve only come from someone close to him.

He responded by saying I was creating a hostile situation and blocked me, saying I had no evidence. Oddly, my messages started delivering again later that day—so I suspect he unblocked me.

Before that, we had a phone call that ended on good terms. He even said it wasn’t one-sided for him, but that he was stressed about work perception. I assured him I’d protect his image. Yet in his final message, he coldly said I didn’t need to—“we were never in a relationship.”

I never disrespected him. I just cared. Do you think he meant what he said? Or is there a chance he’ll come back once things die down?
