Well, I’d start off by saying that, seemingly, one of the core tenets of conservatism is individual selfishness, and this idea that you should never have to do anything you don’t want to or make any sort of concession to anyone or anything else if it’s not agreeable to you, which is kind of antisocial behavior by definition.

So there’s no concept of “I don’t love this, but it’s important to do what’s RIGHT, for all of us collectively, and not what’s comfortable or familiar for me personally”, for the good of people beyond me.” These are people who can’t see beyond the tip of their noses, and the only thing that matters in life to them is that they can do whatever they want without consideration of others, and with no reprimand. They lack empathy and seem to have very little ability to reason beyond selfish interests for a greater cause. “Me first, fuck whoever is second and beyond” is the governing attitude.

So there’s no greater affront to these people than to suggest that maybe what they’re doing isn’t the best idea, or isn’t ecologically-friendly, or ethical, or moral, or whatever the issue may be. They simply don’t care, as long as they get what they want. That’s what “freedom” means to them, sadly. It’s like dealing with first-graders, arrested development.

Honestly, I’m so shocked that these are conversations we have to have with full-grown adults, often even older than I am. They took “Land Of The Free”, and just contorted it to mean “yew cayun’t tale may whut tah dewwww!!!”🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Now, hand up…. I drive a gas-guzzler, lmao. But it’s strictly because of my lifestyle/hobbies. I play hockey and I fish, so I need to be able to accommodate long hockey sticks and fishing rods, and my hockey bag, you could carry a human body in there, lmao. Plus I don’t have trash pickup, I drive my trash and recycling to the dump, so I have to be able to accommodate large barrels. So, in some cases, I get it. If you’re a tradesman or routinely have to lug large items, it might make sense for your lifestyle.

But it’s more about the energy they have about it. Like you said in your update, there’s the aspect of “I’d win any collision.” And no one drives more recklessly than these pickup truck guys. Even if they’re not swerving around, the fast lane doesn’t exist so you can go 100 mph from Point A to Point B. It’s there to pass people. Cops doing their jobs correctly should technically pull you over and ticket you for staying in the left lane an extended period of time…. and if you’re constantly passing people, then you’re probably speeding. So stop fucking speeding and drive by the same rules as the rest of us. You’re not more important than anyone else, where you’re going doesn’t matter more, it’s no one’s issue but your own if you’re late…. so fall the fuck in line and drive with the flow of traffic like the rest of us. Who the fuck do you think you are? But the cops almost never touch them, I don’t get it, other than they profile the kind of guy driving them as “one of us.” And they do often have all these pro-law enforcement stickers on the back window, yet routinely break the law as they drive.

There’s certainly ego involved, the “bigger is better” mentality, and the small-dick-energy overcompensation. That’s probably the obvious route to take, I’ll leave that trail for someone else.

The other thing is, I think Republican politicians, at the behest of (and on the take from) Big Oil, have been instructed to disparage alternative energy sources reflexively, to protect the interests of those in the petroleum business. So when they take to the floor of Congress or put out their platforms, they frame the whole electric vehicle thing as either a problem, an unnecessary sacrifice, a substandard alternative, or as an affront to masculinity (LOL).

Money controls everything. The politicians get paid by these lobbyists, in some way or another, and they in turn tell their constituents that your Prius is going to die on you before you reach the end of your block, or just that you’re a pussy who needs to check if his nuts are still there if you don’t have a big pickup truck.

Even my dad, who’s a “Wall Street”-brand of right winger and doesn’t have all the stupid redneck ego bullshit to combat…he’s just impressionable. These folks tried to spin the public narrative that EVs are bad, and my dad bought it, despite having no dog in the fight. It’s just part of the party platform that he has to align to.

We live on a blind curve that people whip around. Leaving the driveway is always an adventure. I have to roll my windows down, turn the fans off, turn the radio off…complete silence, as I listen for the sound of an oncoming car from the left side, because I can’t see them and they can’t see me. I’m right on the ocean, so it’s CRAZY windy sometimes, and on those days, I have to take a right and turn around down the street, there’s no way to take a safe left turn. Worst thing about the property, haha.

And when I have my old man with me (who’s deaf as a post, lmfao) like 7/10 times he makes some comment about about how EVs are dangerous because you can’t hear them coming down the street. So that’s why we can’t have electric vehicles, because it’s supposedly dangerous for us, and only us, save for a few others with blond driveways, lmfao.

There just all so obediently “on the team”, and then want to tell us they’re alpha males, living “free”🙄🤦‍♂️😂

The question I always want to ask is: “if America was a buyer of oil, and not a seller, and gas was much more expensive for us, and all it did was make money for some Arab country and make us dependent on them…. would this still be your attitude?”

Because Fox News & Right Wing Influencers have made it a point that “EV Bad”, “Gas Guzzler Good”.

It isn’t because they believe electric cars are worse for the environment, or it is impossible to switch to clean energy, or that it is a waste of resources. It literally boils down to “my guy says it’s bad and so my guy can never be wrong / lie to me so f*ck off with your facts & logic”.

There is no such thing as, “clean coal” and this industry is corrupt. ‘Big Oil’ only gets defended because they fill the pockets of a lot of politicians.

Why does America hate diesel cars, they are much more economical? If you look at American pick ups and pick ups elsewhere in the world pick ups in America are much bigger for no reason.

they don't. politics is a show akin to wrestling. it's staged. the prius that is charged by fossil fuels is that same as the gas guzzler. it's the same and they all know this and don't care because it keeps you blaming the other.

I like the cargo space and I like to ride higher than the traffic around me. Being shielded by 2 tons of steel is a big advantage in a crash and the big V8 engine has plenty of power.
