How can I work to get someone to like me? (Serious replies only)?

My best friend told me that there was a person who they became friends with on the job and they are really good friends.

I've only met the person twice, three times counting a brief interaction. Both times I have associated with this person they were really nice, and then the brief interaction for some reason caused my best friend and their other friend to ask if I liked this person. They were teasing me and my best friend said that they were teasing me. So I assumed that they were genuinely teasing me and didn't think much of it because I do not know this person. Yeah on the way home and even now My best friend keeps saying they shipped me with someone. Which I was confused about, but the only person I would think that they would ship me with is the one person , the boy that they introduced me to. Yet they keep on referring to a random animal is who they ship me with. Which is what I assume is a code name for only them to know who they're talking about not me. Now we both have been single for a long time I assume, and I don't know how to interact with males whatever I'm courting or whatever... And I generally do not know this guy yet, but his personality is really cool and I want to get to know him better, but the thing is I rarely see him and I don't have any of his contact information and I can't just ask my best friend for it or would sound like I actually would be interested in dating this person which I am still I'm sure about. I just need some advice on how to become better friends or even get to know this guy whenever I see him when I see him. Any advice will help, genuinely I'm very curious about this person especially after the influence from my best friend.
