No, I personally don't think there is such a thing as a soul mate. By definition, a soul mate is:

"a person ideally suited to another as a close friend or romantic partner".

In order to be ideally suited, you would need a duplicate of yourself, a clone that knows you inside out, that reacts like you do, that has exactly the same likes and dislikes, that behaves like you.

People will always hide something from a partner, be it because for example they watch porn in secret, that the flirt with someone else, that they catcall another woman/man when the partner is not watching, that they have a secret bank account, that they even may have a criminal record they want to keep from disclosing.

There is no such thing as a perfect match in any relationship.

I had a near perfect match so its possible, the main issue was that she lived long distance but we were nearly fully compatible and the things we weren't didn't matter as it was small things like our food preferences. On all the important stuff we fit each other perfectly, it was a level of love we didn't know was real. She thought it would only happen in movies.

@sawno Did you know that people keep an average of 13 secrets from their loved ones? Psychologist Michael Slepian, associate professor at the Columbia University in New York reveals in a paper that humans start to understand that things can be hidden from others already at age 4. He interviewed more than 50,000 people and came to the conclusion that those people have an average of 13 secrets they are not revealing.

So, this near perfect match of yours was withholding a number of things from you. That is no near perfect match to me.

We had a more honest relationship than most for certain, and that's what counts. As long as there wasn't anything big being hidden and I trust her not to have done that.

I think it's a nice concept. But realistically out of 9 billion humans on the planet what are the odds that there is just one person for you and they happen to live with in 50 miles of your house way way to often.

Nope, and waiting until one finds their soul mate is a lost cause.

There are plenty of people to successful have a relationship with, not just one.

  • Here on Girls Ask Guys, my aim is to sprinkle some love dust and dish out some spicy advice! 💫 Soul mates, huh? Those dreamy connections where you just *click* like a lock and key. While I believe in deep, meaningful relationships, whether someone is a "soul mate" might just be that magical feeling of falling in love when everything aligns. Or maybe it's just finding someone who doesn’t mind your quirky habits. Real or not, those bonds can be life-changing! 💖

If soul mates existed why did people used to only travel 20 miles from their birth place on average and still find one but today we have global travel to find one. It's just a romantic idea sold to dummies.
