What makes someone instantly boring to you?

For me someone too talkative or egocentric. Although they might have had many experiences in life, the tone they use and the way they always twist things to make it about them again bores me strikingly fast.

Do you think it’s solely about not being quick witted? Is it also just behavioural at times?

Do you feel all quiet and shy people are boring in a way?

Quiet and shy doesn't necessarily mean boring. Some people are thoughtful and take their time about what they say. They might say less than most people, but what they say has weight to it.

As you mention, instant boredom comes from someone who's only talking about themselves, as IF you're interested in them without asking. And a one-sided conversation is indeed boring. Also, has to do with the subject matter. If you're not interested in travel, scuba diving or art , and the person you're talking to drones on about those subjects, your brain will shut down.

And there is that note: droning. If you're speaking to someone who is not participating in the conversation after you've asked "what do you think?" "Have you ever done this?" "What are your hobbies?" Then gracefully bow out and move on.

That person isn't interested, for whatever reason. And if the drone is the other person; excuse yourself to the bathroom, the bar or a quiet corner. Don't allow yourself to be used and abused.

I like how the question is worded “boring TO YOU” someone may be boring to me but not boring to other people so don’t take this too harshly.

1. Trying to impress me in a really obvious way like trying to act rich or important.
2. Talking non stop about something I am not interested in, like politics or music, it might sound funny that I list music along w politics but it actually happens a lot, going on and on how important some musician is or how bad some musician is (usually how bad a musician I like is lol).

Quick witted can be amusing but I have noticed those people have a set number of lines to trot out appropriately and are not as quick witted as they seem on first acquaintance.

Agree that people who take anything that is said and relates it to them to then make it all about them are not only boring but annoying. I've seen a woman in that category on learning another woman had lost a relative express great sympathy and related it to her loss of her grandfather a decade ago and then rambled on about her loss. Not only boring and annoying but quite disgusting as well.

Some people have one working synapse and I find those pretty annoying and boring too.

They’re a leftist. Also if I can tell someone’s full of shit exaggerating stories or even flat out lying to me about things makes me angry.

I’m fine if someone likes to talk but as you said it really depends. Shy? No they’re not boring many times they are very interesting people who just don’t waste their energy on people who don’t matter they share things with people they trust. Even many outgoing people aren’t just a open book because there are some things you just don’t need to share with everyone.

Excessive whining, sense of entitlement or pretentiousness are boring to me. Someone earlier was telling me how to sit in a space that I've been at for over ten years. I just looked and said, "It's not my first time here, but thank you for your opinion." in a kind-but-firm tone that basically told her to buzz off. I wasn't interested in her $1K suit and fake superiority at all.

Similarly, if someone is at a dance and (1) won't dance, (2) complains about everything and (3) is planning to stand in the corner all night nursing one beverage, they're bringing down the energy of the room and the event.

It's important to politely distance oneself from such people and then move on so that you're at least able to enjoy your day.

Someone that doesn't have any hobbies or interests. I've come across so many people that have no idea what they like in life. They're just drifting along and don't have much to say. They seem to just want money so they can have a good standard of life. There's no essence to them.

People that don't have opinions also bore me. Terrible conversationalists.

Generally when someone either doesn’t have much to say when trying to engage in conversation (or they talk so much it’s hard to have any input), we simply don’t have anything in common or a combination. I honestly don’t mind if someone is either quiet or more talkative tbh (have very outgoing and introverted friends) but if you can’t have an actual conversation with the person they’re not worthwhile to put energy into

What makes someone intolerably boring to me is when I'm 5 minutes into a conversation and I've had to stop 5 times to explain some basic concept that came up in the conversation. I want to have conversations with adults, not a child that needs constant explanations about how the world works. Stuff like where the Pacific Ocean is located or which direction is north or how government is structured.

They have no interest in science, sci-fi, or fantasy
They have no interest in cartoons/anime.
They are bad at video games or don't enjoy them.
They have low or even average intelligence.
They choose to complain rather than fix a problem.
They are not creative/not artistic.
They are lazy or enjoy doing nothing.
They are jaded.
They aren't hyper.

I'm a quiet guy, but once I talk, I can discuss different topics—sports, politics, religion, life, gender and psychology, etc. But I won't talk about sports or guy stuff if I'm having a convo with females. I'll try to gauge her interests or passions. If she's into birds, I'll talk about that, art, or music. But I don't want to keep yapping because I don't want to seem annoying.
