My aunt likes anime?

So me and my boyfriend had a fight last night and it's still dragging on til today.
During the argument he brings up my young aunt and said "heaps of girls like anime like your Aunt."
Just because I'm not into anime.
And I know it's ridiculous to fight over a preference but here we go that's what he likes to do.
Does anyone else think that's weird as hell like how did my aunt get into this. I asked him why he did bring her up and he said he's just using it as an example. Umm my aunt as an example to me for what?

I think it's pretty pathetic to argue over something like anime, in the first place.

I mean, I get that some people enjoy it, and that's cool. I'm happy for them, but it seems like a lot of them (not all) have this unhealthy need to elevate it to the status of some sort of divine object.

They become obsessed with it, and they have to defend their adulation at all costs. Like using your aunt to somehow justify his own appreciation of it. Is that supposed to prove that he's right? That her liking anime somehow validates him?

That gives off, "Well she saw the ghost, too, so I'm not crazy!" vibes, and that's just... weird. It's a cartoon, for Christ's sake. There are religions that have less devoted followers.
