My boyfriend and I are in a long-distance relationship. We live on two different continents and haven’t seen each other in six months. I’ve been trying to find a compromise so we can finally see each other again. But every time I bring it up, he never gives me a clear date or timeline. I’ve tried to be understanding of his work and other circumstances.
But last night, during a conversation, he told me his sister’s birthday is coming up. She asked him if he could be there for it, and he immediately went on his phone to look for tickets—no hesitation, no excuses.
I don’t have a problem with him visiting his family. What hurt was how quickly and decisively he acted for her, when I’ve been waiting and hoping for that same kind of energy toward seeing me. It made me feel like I’m not a priority.
When I shared how I felt, he said he avoids telling me things because he fears I’ll get offended. But I’m not looking for reasons to be upset. I just want to see the person I love, and when it feels like I’m the one always waiting or compromising, it’s hard not to question where I stand.
It’s made me wonder: am I wrong for feeling this way?”
