People of GAG, what would your reaction be if you woke up to your spouse/significant other screaming in their sleep?

Just curious, my reaction was to wake her, cuddle her close and repeatedly tell her that "I'm here, everything is okay, I'm not leaving"

I'm particularly interested in how women would react to their boyfriends/husbands/significant others screaming in their sleep due to bad dream.

My husband has never experienced that sort of thing, but I have. He just gets all annoyed with me if I wake him up talking or yelling. Sometimes I reach over and hold his arm to reassure myself of reality.

If he started screaming in his sleep I’d do my very best to roll over and ignore him, but I would be worried he is dying.

I agree, but some people don’t like to be woken up in the middle of the night 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've done this. I had read a pretty disturbing novel the night before. You have to be careful and allow a person to come out of a dream slowly. There are chemicals at play to preventing a person physically acting out dreams. It's best to talk someone out of it. Cuddle after.

I don't think I would wake her up but I will just hold her hand and if can hug her I will and whisper in her ear that I am here and I love her until she calms down

I’d presume they were unduly stressed by something in the daytime (or during the week). I’d hold and soothe them, get some water etc.

My immediate reaction would be identical to your own... In taking my husband in my arms and totally reassuring him that everything was alright... And that it was just a very bad dream he had.

It happens more frequently than I'd like. She's always worried that I'm upset with her for waking me.. I always tell her it's my job to protect her and be there for her. And it's my job to make the monsters go away.

Considering it happens about two or three times a year no. I was more worried she was having bad dreams at all. On that same token she's in therap for it.

I have before. I tend to wrap my arms around them and hold them close. It's gotten me slugged in the face a few times, but shit happens. I get it

I’ll be worry, hold them gently in my arms, and softly wake them up from their nightmare that everything will be okay.
