My fiancée used to live 20 minutes away. The circumstances keeping us apart were COVID-19 and my weakened immune system. COVID-19 will kill me, in contrast, my girlfriend has gotten it twice and recovered. To be physically so close, but unable to see each other, even when she was healthy, was extremely difficult. As soon as restrictions were lifted, she would spend months with me before finally getting in the right situation to move in.
