How much time should couples realistically spend together in a relationship?

I'm currently in a long distance relationship and I don't know/not sure how much time i should spend with my boyfriend..

I love him and i don't want him to get tired of me, or find me avoidant or anything..

So how much time should couples spend together?

I feel like LDRs can come with more obstacles than normal relationships, mainly because the distance makes it hard to spend time together at all. I’ve tried an LDR before and all I can really say is that there has to be a silver lining when it comes to closing the distance, like one moving closure to the other or moving in together entirely. Without that, the relationship can become stagnant and/or bleak.


When it comes to how much time you should spend together, every couple is different and you have to do what works best for yours. Some couples navigate around busy schedules and are ok with spending 2-3 days out of the week together, sometimes more or less. Other couples hate being apart completely and see each other (almost) every day.


With you being in an LDR I could understand your concerns about him losing interest since you’ve grown to love him. But staying with someone just because you love them isn’t very realistic to me, mainly because love isn’t everything. You need functionality, structure, practicality. It needs to work in a way that makes you both happy. If you’re both happy right now, then I wouldn’t burden myself with fears of what could happen in the future — cross that bridge when or if you get to it.

In a long-distance relationship, daily contact is healthy, but not 24/7. A good balance is: at least one meaningful call or video chat a day, plus texting throughout the day when you’re both free.

If you’re both still living your own lives, not lovebombing or clingy, and communication feels fun instead of draining, you’re in the sweet spot. If he’s into you, he won’t get tired of you, he’ll crave you more.
